Remapping

What is remapping?

Remapping is the process of optimizing the software calibration within the engine control module to help improve the engines :

* Power & Torque output

* Throttle response

* Drivability

* Fuel economy – save money on fuel

A stage 1 remap is simply giving your vehicle the performance it should’ve had when it left the factory, before the manufacturer incorporated many compromises – being very conservative and taking into account a wide range of variations for every region they sell the car worldwide – differing emission laws around the world, extremes of temperature, sub standard fuels, altitudes, and even the possibility of vehicles that may not be serviced regularly or in-line with manufacturers specifications. The manufacturer often leaves a lot on the table for improvements by software alone, without any further modifications required.

Remaps are custom for your specific vehicle. The software is read from direct from your ECU, software modified and then written back to the ECU, ready for testing. FDR is an OLS Tuning authorized dealer.

All modern vehicles have an ‘OBD’ (On-board diagnostic) port – from this port we are able to access a wide variety of ECU’s to read/write the software. There are however a range of vehicles using ECU’s that cannot be remapped via the OBD, and these must be removed from the vehicle for programming on the workbench which may require the ECU to be opened. We are able to cover both OBD & bench programming.

Disclaimer:

All figures quoted are estimates, and may vary with vehicle age and condition etc… i.e. A vehicle quoted to have say 120bhp when it left the factory may now only be producing say 110bhp…

We advise customers to carefully consider that tuning the vehicle to produce more power and torque, will also subject the vehicle components to an increased workload & stress, and may increase wear and tear – i.e. engine, clutch, tyres, brakes etc…. Tuning is performed at the customers own risk, by their request.
